RG Arts presents... Friday 17th July at The Maze, Nottingham

Friday 17th July @ The Maze, Nottingham

Royal Gala: www.myspace.com/royalgalaband
Nine piece breakbeat, latin, ska, dirty funk, dance extravaganza!
'Royal Gala blend hot-steppin' ska with hard hitting soul and percussive loops to create a non-pretentious funk hybrid that could start a revolution' – (Scene Magazine) “Great Ska brass section and skanking guitar work, topping the pile is a superb empassioned squalling vocal and rounding off the bottom is a crazy deep sub-bass”……(Future Music Nov 08)

Stig Noise Soundsystem: www.myspace.com/stignoise
Jacked up, fucked up flamenco noise
"Their noise is remarkable as it is original:crazy melodies played at odd tempos with brass instruments held in the hands of what apeare to be lunatics.Stig are the kind of band that the word cult was invented for.Weird, wonderful and Hardcore".Metal Hammer :)

"Crazy noise, granted, but nothing quite prepares for the flamenco-featuring random meandering, enthusiastically ploughing through unhinged rhythms, bewildering Henry Mancini-isms and Mclusky spikiness" .Rum N Brass. Dis.

Deep Sound Channel: www.myspace.com/deepsoundchannel1
Live drum n’ bass, reggae and dub to trippy and mind blowing effect
Deep Sound Channel are a Nottingham-based tour-de-force of a live band. It’s hard to pin their music down to a particular genre, but you could come close by saying that they lie in the gap of where drum and bass meets jazz, except it’s all done with live instruments.
Having formed several years ago Deep Sound Channel are a rare breed of unique music in Nottingham. With experienced musicians at the helm DSC mix a live drum and bass sound with reggae, dub, rock and even folk influences to trippy and mind blowing effect!

Jimmy The Squirrel: www.myspace.com/jimmythesquirrel
Reggae ska rudeboys on Do the Dog Records
Jimmy the Squirrel is a 5 piece band from London and Nottingham, taking influences from ska, punk and reggae bands from all over the world. The band's sound has evolved through punk and ska into a stripped down ska/reggae sound in the vein of Bedouin Soundclash, and the King Blues. Jimmy's formative months saw regular gigs and parties in Nottingham which have branched out to other cities as the band's momentum has grown, taking in gigs with The Big, King Blues, Catch-It Kebabs, Fandangle, P.O Box and Mouthwash, and a tour with Babar Luck along the way.
In April 2008 Jimmy the Squirrel signed to Do The Dog Records and are touring throughout August to promote their debut release on the label, an eponymous 4 track EP.
DO THE DOG PRESS RELEASE
"Together since 2005, this 5 piece crew kick out a raw & rootsy, stripped down ska/reggae vibe in the vein of Chris Murray, Bedouin Soundclash & The King Blues. Their highly infectious sound boasts heartfelt, soulful vocal harmonies underpinned by killer old school keyboard melodies & spaghetti westernesque guitar licks!"
